PRESS RELEASE Malá inventura 2016

MALÁ INVENTURA / February 22 – 29 / The 14th International Festival of New Theater

Malá inventura festival summarizes the most outstanding New Theater achievements of the past year. This makes it an event that attracts attention beyond the borders of the Czech Republic. This year, more than 70 regional and international theater professionals will come to Prague to attend the festival that aims to promote the circulation of projects, presentation of Czech culture abroad and last but not least cultural networking.

For the third time in its history, this fourteenth year of the festival will start with a grand gala awards biennial ceremony of Czech Theatrical DNA with awards for outstanding contribution in the field of New Theater. Official Awards will take place at the Archa Theater on February 22 at 8 p.m. For the list of nominations please see the attachment to this press release.

Adriana Světlíková, the director of the festival, says: “It is necessary to take stock. And even more now, with the current program potential offered by our home scenes. There is a great interest from abroad as well as from Czech regions so we shall see who will score the best. Finally, Mala Inventura offers space for independent productions under its Tažní ptáci (Migratory Birds) section and even gives opportunity to newcomers (New Blood on Stage section). We managed to bring in the extra international program, this year from France. It’s going to be a proper Inventory!”

Every year, Mala inventura festival offers a distinctive artistic and performative rendition of its center. This year it will be placed in the ALTA Studio, which created a touring interactive theater café Café Theatroom. „The café will provide a nontraditional place for meetings of the festival visitors, artists and guests, but also shall serve as an authentic stage for theater performances and workshops under the guidance of the author of each individual installation,” says Jiří Vydra, creator of the Theatroom concept.

The festival will present 37 events during 8 evenings. Detailed program of the festival is available at www.malainventura.cz.
In the fall of 2016, the festival will continue in regions with Mala Inventura Jičín, České Budějovice a Opava as well as with Ozvěny festivalu (Festival Echoes) within the nationwide network of regional partners.
